It's been a while since I've done that in a fiber environment, but I
seem to recall that if a different node had the drive in use, I'd get
"SCSI Reservation" errors, and if the current node was using it, I'd get
"drive busy".

I've certainly never seen mt status break a currently running backup.

I might worry that on fiber drives that have multiple paths, someone
could run an mt command on one path while a backup was using the other.
The system wouldn't recognize the device as busy and might send the
command.
