Hi everybody,

do this log entries mean that we have a drive or media failure (or both)?

01/17/05 14:29:06 nsrd: media warning: /dev/nst4 writing: No space left on device, at file 286 record 2 01/17/05 14:29:06 nsrd: media notice: LTO Ultrium tape 000058 on /dev/nst4 is full 01/17/05 14:29:06 nsrd: media notice: LTO Ultrium tape 000058 used 190 GB of 100 GB capacity

so far, so good, but then:

01/17/05 14:29:18 nsrd: media notice: Volume "000058" on device "/dev/nst4": Cannot decode block. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled.

Meanwhile, the Linux kernel logs:

Jan 17 14:29:18 nw kernel: SCSI Error: (4:4:0) Status=02h (CHECK CONDITION)
Jan 17 14:29:18 nw kernel: Key=8h (BLANK CHECK); FRU=00h
Jan 17 14:29:18 nw kernel: ASC/ASCQ=00h/05h ""
Jan 17 14:29:18 nw kernel: CDB: 08 00 01 00 00 00 - "READ(6)"

After writing these entries, the volume goes "rewinding", then "writing, moving forward 286 file(s)"

Our server's stinit.def matches the one on Legato's website. Any ideas what's wrong here?

Regards
Olaf
