Hi,

In todays date we have two different ways that we can backup to disk and
then disk to tape.

One is using a SATA disk array with Legato DBO
Second is using a Virtual Tape library that is a disk array which emulates
a Tape library.

I know that traditional disk arrays need a DBO license and for cloning to
tape we need to configure the Legato environment manually or script the
cloning.

For the VTL we need additional jukebox licenses and this method does not
need any major changes to the existing environment.

I was interested to know what are the advantages of each method has over
the other, other than the above.

How do you usually clone the data from disk to tape if you use a normal
disk library with the DBO option? How do you recover space on the disk
array when the array is full?

If there is any whitepaper or cheatsheet on this please let me know.

Thanks

Somen Chanda
