My "reverse engineering" revealed that the maxlimum block size is 192kB.
At least in version 6.x.

bash-2.05# strings /usr/sbin/nsrmmd|grep block|grep max
illegal block size (%s KB) for (%s) using maximum supported block size of 192kB

Hi guys,

HAs anyone played around with the block sizes Networker uses with SDLT320
tape drives. Does anyone have any tips regarding limitations (maximums,
minimums etc) for SDLT320's ?

We are wanting to increase the block sizing etc to assist in speeding up
thru-put etc, is 256kb the limit, or would 512kb work out ok ?? that is
assuming i am correct that the default is 128kb.

Also would the HBA have limitations we need to consider ??

Also another issue I came across, we the steps that you "used" to be able
to perform to have Networker return the current Block sizing for the
devices/tape drives....
used to be able to stop networker, add the following 2 lines to the startup
NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_MSG=YES
NSR_DEV_TAPE_FILE_SIZE=YES
then re-label a tape, and it should alert what the blo9ck size etc was
when the previous nsr label was performed....

this didnt return anything....any ideas ??

Rexxy.

p.s. I havent RE-read any of the above, hope it makes sense....hehehe
