[Networker] savegroup silently fails - no alert issued
2004-11-03 09:22:21
Hello,
I have one Group that contains a single client. The group is scheduled to
start at 3:45.
The backup worked for some months without any problem. Then someone
deleteted the server entry from the ..\etc\hosts (the networker server is a
windows box). From then on the backup failed (or more to the point
networker not really tried to start the group).
I can understand that the backup fails (no DNS lookup), but I think it must
not fail silently - there should be some kind of savegroup alert. But in
the daemon.log there is only this:
11/02/04 03:45:04 savegrp: Host 'zkdhpov1' in group 'SYSMON' is unknown
11/02/04 03:45:04 savegrp: No valid clients in group 'SYSMON'
usage: savegrp [<options>] [-R | -G] [groupname]
<options>: [-EIOFXbmnpv] [-l level | -C schedule] [-e expiration time]
[-w browse time] [-y retention time] [-t date] [-r retries]
[-P printer] [-W width] [-c client ...]
11/02/04 03:45:04 nsrd: runq: NSR group SYSMON exited with return code 2.
Networker apparently does not treat this as a "normal" savegroup failure
and no notification is triggered. There was not even the "red hand" button
on the administrator GUI indicating a unsuccessful save. Unsurprisingly
this went unnoticed for some days.
How do I make networker to handle this as a savegroup failure so I will be
aware of the situation?
If not a savegroup alert is there any other way to make this into a
notification?
