Hello,

Yesterday we had some DNS problems in our primary server. Due to an error,
the Legato server didn't had access to the secondary DNS server so during
the night backup all started to fail!

During this DNS problem, we have seen different errors in the logs:

- machine:hostname resolution failed
- machine:unknown 3 retries attempted
- machine:unknown unknown: No such file or directory
- machine:unknown 10/20/04 15:19:49 nsrexec: Cannot contact nsrexecd service
on backupsrv, Service not available.

Another failure is that the server is reclaiming tapes from the pool
'Default' when there are a lot of empty tapes in the current used pool (the
pool from where Legato borrows tapes for the group that failed at night).

After resolving the DNS problems and restarting Legato Server, we can
'restart' without problems the group but for some machines we have the
following errors:

machine:unknown: No full backups of this save set were found in the media
database; performing a full backup

Do you know why? Is it possible that Legato thinks that this is a new
machine because it couldn't be contacted when we have the DNS problem?

I would like to know more experiences related to DNS problems and if someome
has experienced this one (our clients and server are 7.1.2 version; server
is W2K machine; clients are a mixture of Windows and Unix clients: NT, W2K,
2003, SuSe Linux, Solaris, AIX).
