I'm not 100% sure of the meaning but I have seen it before. I always
took it to mean that the original client had drives defined (and backed
up) which the client you are on doesn't have.

Anyone know what a red ball with a question mark means on Networker User
GUI?

It is a red ball with a white question mark superimposed on a Windows
drive icon.

I get it on one drive only during a remote directed recovery, but it
does not show up if I use User from the client itself.
