Andy try the following (if you are able to):

1. Check to see of the MSSQL Service is running under the "LocalSystem" or
another account on the server or from a domain. If so you should be able to
use this user to authenticate to the MSSQL Database.

2. Try either creating or using a username and password that already has
permissions on the database that you are attempting to backup. (If you can
get the "sa" user and password).

3. Take these users from 1 and 2 and try them in "Remote" tab with the
following fields:

        User:  username
        Password:  password

For the username you can put in a local user account that is either running
the MSSQL service or a local or sql user account that has the proper
permissions. (If you want to use a user in a domain you could user,
DOMAIN\user) Once you have these field set you should be able to run a
successful backup (assuming you have the correct permissions).

If you are still having problems then check the application log files on the
server. They should be in the C:\program files\Legato\nsr\logs\applogs or
\nsr\applogs.

Hope this information helps.

Subject: [Networker] Legato MSSQL module backups

Hi all

Having problems setting up hot backups of MS SQL on Windows 2000,
getting  the following error messages.

 netdev2:MSSQL: 1 retry attempted
* netdev2:MSSQL: Microsoft SQL Server Provider error:
* netdev2:MSSQL:  [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]SQL
Server does not exist or access denied..
* netdev2:MSSQL:  [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared
Memory]ConnectionOpen (Connect())..
* netdev2:MSSQL:
* netdev2:MSSQL: Cannot login to SQL Server null.

Anyone seen this before? Any pointers would be gratefully received.

We are already backing up other MSSQL servers using this module but the
Windows admin who set these backups up has left :o(
Normal backups of this machine run correctly, dns etc is fine.

Thanks in advance

Andy
