If, thru the Networker gui you go: MEDIA JUKEBOX change AUTOCLEAN to
yes Networker will check on each tape load to see if the drives require
cleaning, If they do it will load the cleaning tape prior to whatever tape
is was going to load. This is not a schedule. The cleaning tape only loads
when the drive requests cleaning.

That's what I get for posting a response on a question without reviewing
the dialog (going from memory).

It *used to be* that NetWorker cleaning was periodic, meaning it was every
so often (I don't know if it was based on how many hours a drive had been
used, or if it was just "every N days/weeks/months/whatever"), but you
could configure how often.

I just checked our 6.1.3 server, and it appears my "NetWorker cleaning
bigotry" is out of date. It's hard to tell based on the Help->On Window
exactly how NetWorker determines that a drive needs cleaning, but it seems
pretty clear that what you're saying is correct -- NetWorker only cleans
a drive when it determines the drive needs cleaning. That's a big
improvement over the old functionality.

I've been using NetWorker a long, long time, and it appears I need to
review some of my biases.

Does anyone know when this particular bit of functionality changed?
