I recently posted the below problem on this list unfortunately with no
replies.

After some tests I found that 7.1.2 might be more sensitive to network
traffic than 7.1.1.
We normally run these backups through a vpn tunnel, created by a free bsd
4.9 box. This tunnel give us the acces needed to backup data from
firewalled network segments, as far as I know its currently the prefered
way to backup through a firewall with Networker, without opening 20000
ports ;)

After I upgraded the Server to version 7.1.2, the savesets that was run
through the above setup, aborted 15-20 sec. after they were started and a
message was displayed in the Daemon.log Update of SS failed, nothing else.

I then tried the same backups with the sever connected directly to these
seqmenetet LAN's, not using the VPN box and the backup went just fine.
But since this is unaccepteble security wise, I really had no other choice
than to downgrade the server to version 7.1.1 after which my backups are
running fine once more.

All this trouble, leads me to belive that Networker 7.1.2 is more
sensitive to 'stuff' happening on the LAN connection, dropped packages
etc.

Trouble is what do I do now ? I can't upgrade to 7.1.2, and I can't really
stay at 7.1.1 since that release has some cluster client licensing
trouble, which I have temporary solved ;)

I think I will wait for next release of networker and try again, but if
anybody is using a similar setup and is considering an upgrade to 7.1.2
they are hereby warned that it may result in trouble.

If anybody is using a similar setup and have a 7.1.2 server running
without flaws, I'd like to compare notes and see what differs.

Come to think of it, all these backups were made to an Adv_file device and
7.1.2 had fixes made to adv_file device speeds perhaps thats where the
cookie is buried....

Sorry for the long ramble here ;)

Hi there
Server. win2k with Networker server 7.1.2
Client. AIX with Networker client 7.1.1

I have an database server which we shutdown through a savepnpc command
Recently I get an error on the save and the only message I can find is
"update of ss failed" from the savepnpc command.

I recently updated the server to 7.1.2 from 7.1.1, and if memory servers
me it was about the same time I got this error. Question is why ?

Does anybody have any clue as to what that error means ? I have been
through my daemon.log, messages etc without any luck in finding the
reason.
