Iperf between Linux systems with gigabit consistantly reports
around 760 mbits/sec (95 MB/s.)  [1]

I don't have a Sun with gigabit right now, but it'd probably be
easy for you to try iperf.  I'd be curious to know what you get.
(I sure hope it's more than 40 MB/s!)
