Along this vein has anyone figured out how to change Networker's default
location name for when media in the in the library, or to stop networker
from changer the location?

Mark,

Use the mmlocate command for this task. You can even set up a simple
script that takes input from a file containing the tape volume names you
want to update.  See the man pages for syntax.
