To (hopefully :) clarify LTO-II support on Solaris, I've looked at the
main page on Sunsolve for L700 (which is the library that I maintain):

http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/L700/L700.html

It indicates that Solaris 8 is minimum OS for LTO Gen II, and requires
current ST patch which is 108725 for Sol8 and 113277 for Sol9.

So my plans for an LTO-II upgrade will be to have Sol8 servers with
patch clusters from the day before the drives get attatched ;).

There are also other requirements (i.e. additional driver packages)
if you are going to use Sun's LVD-SCSI cards.

One last thing: You _can_ get burned on patch clusters, in particular
the kernel patch. We've had several issues in particular with 2.6
kernels, though only once on a 2.8 kernel (which was not major but
just annoying).
