I had a problem (with version <= 6.1.3?) where a daily script was
running a savegrp probe (-p) to get a list of all filesystems that
should have been backed up, in order to make sure the backups were
current. Turns out if the backups for that client/group were still
running, exactly what you describe happens: file deleted, backup
restarts.
Supposedly that problem is fixed, but I changed my script.....
