Thanks Itzik;

No matter what the command, the status command returns the following:

Media Capacity = 0Byte
Media Remaining = 0Byte
Media Blocksize = 0

So, I it would appear to me that the mt.exe command is not actually
looking at the media. It does provide the min / max / default values,
for the drive, but doesn't do anything for the actual media.

Thanks again

Best would be tcopy if available for windows but I doubt it.
Try to use the following command sequence with a tape loaded in lets say
\\.\tape0
mt -f \\.\Tape0 rewind
mt -f \\.\Tape0 status
mt -f \\.\Tape0 fsr 1
mt -f \\.\Tape0 status
mt -f \\.\Tape0 fsf 1
mt -f \\.\Tape0 status
mt -f \\.\Tape0 fsr 1
mt -f \\.\Tape0 status
mt -f \\.\Tape0 fsr 1
mt -f \\.\Tape0 status
with fsf meaning forward skip file (tapemark) and fsr forward skip
record.
Hope this helps
