Looks like to be a known issue with 5.1/PK3 :

is backup terminated at end of media after installation of V5.1b/PK3 ?
Do you see somethink like that in you daemon.log ?

'ansrd: continued save for <#> (Volume): failed: Unable to send'
'ansrd: continued save for (Volume): failed: encode failed'
'ansrd: chunk2 to nsrmmd failed'
'ansrd: RPC error: Unable to send'
'ansrd: mm mark failed'
'write(address) Err#32 Broken pipe' in nsrmmd trace output

In Tru64 5.1B pk3, tcp_output() was modified, determining when a persist
packet should be sent. This breaks the communication between the client
and
server when a persist packet needed.

contact HP support for V5.1B CSP 407.00 -
a fix for premature connection termination.

Thierry

Subject: [Networker] Backup problem after Tru64 5.1b PK3 o/s upgrade on
client

Hi all
After upgrading the unix client (uxfmistst) from Tru64 v5.1a PK3
to Tru64 v5.1b PK3 we have received the error below during all
attempted backups.

The Networker client software was re-installed after the o/s upgrade.

The two directories which continually fail contain large amounts
of oracle data (~100GB each), however this amount of data has
been successfully backed up under the current set up for over
a year before the o/s upgrade of the client. (we do shutdown
the Application and oracle database before the backup)
