I deleted subsequent messages while cleaning my INBOX after a long
weekend, so this may have already been pointed out, but you don't mention
"Solaris" anywhere in your environment description above. That device
file matches exactly what I would expect for a
- compressing (highest available density)
- Berkeley-style close
- non-rewinding
device file name on a Solaris box. I wouldn't expect to see anything like
that on a Tru64 box (which always uses Berkeley style close, uses a
completely different naming convention, etc).
Is there a Solaris host involved in this at all, that hasn't been
mentioned?

Hmmm, could the rewind have failed? What does
ls -al /dev/rmt/0cbn
and then
ls -alL /dev/rmt/0cbn
report for /dev/rmt/0cbn? I've never seen it with NetWorker, but I've
certainly seen situations where admins have used the wrong tape device
name when doing something like
tar -cf /dev/rmt/0cbnb /var
With no `/dev/rmt/0cbnb' tape device, you just end up creating an enormous
file in the /dev/rmt directory named 0cbnb. That's not what's happening
here, is it?
