Recovering, have a try to force the server to be used like
recover -s <new server>

Did you also looked at client's /nsr/res/servers to be sure
new server to be listed in and have restarted nsrexecd.

Be also sure the new server can reverse lookup all ip
and new server's administrator (root or administrator) to be
in NetWorker server's administrator list.

>From the clients, does nsrwatch/nwadmin connect to the server ?
Does nsrwatch/nwadmin with forced server (using -s <server>) connect ?

What's source OS ? What's target os ?
Does mminfo still list backups ?

>3) Copied the /index directory from the old to the new.
you should have used "nsrck -l 7 " to recover indexes.

>(did not use the recovered nsr.res)
Why ? You should have defined new server as a client of old server,
granting new server as administrator (root@newserver or
administrator@newserver)
and then, once mmrecovered mediadb and nsr.res/nsrjb.res,
rename recovered .res files to the nsr.res and nsrjb.res and
restart networker. Then licenses to have transferred to new hostid
within 15 days. It should work.

Subject: [Networker] Transferring a NW host.

Good-day,

We recently transferred a NW 6.1.3 server from one physical host to
another
(with a new hostname).

When we did the following steps it worked fine

1) Copied the /res directory and /index directories from old to new

2) Transferred the media DB using savegrp -o on the old system and
mmrecov
on the new.

We could browse clients for restores. The new server had been created
as a
client, and the old server data was still accesible as a client.

However when we did the following :-

1) Started NW as a new install on new (no /res, /index or media DB)

2) Transferred the media DB using savegrp -o on the old system and
mmrecov
on the new (did not use the recovered nsr.res)

3) Copied the /index directory from the old to the new.

4) Created all the clients on new to have exactly the same client IDs as
the
clients on old.

The clients would not "connect" to the client file indexes for
restores.

It seems that there is a "link" between the original nsr.res and the
client
file indexes, which is more than simply the client IDs.

Can anyone comment on this ?

thanks

John Hope-Bailie
