You need to engage your hardware vender. I just closed a similar case with
legato opened jan 2003.

"10/06/03 20:22:49 nsrd: media emergency: could not position BQK234 to file 47,
record 15518
"10/06/03 20:23:54 nsrd: Jukebox 'esl' failed: expected volume 'BQK212' got
'NULL'.
"10/06/03 20:28:04 nsrd: media warning: /dev/ntape/tape6_d1 reading: No such
file or directory
"10/06/03 20:28:14 nsrd: media warning: verification of volume "BQK234", volid

"record 15518 of file 47 on sdlt tape BQK234
"10/06/03 20:28:14 nsrd: media notice: verification of volume "BQK234", volid

"g marked as full.
"10/06/03 20:28:14 nsrd: media notice: Save set (2180412675)
anaconda.mitidata.com:/perf volume BQK234 on /dev/
"ntape/tape6_d1 is being terminated

legato support will have you jump through hoops utilizing cleaning cartridges
etc. SDLT are designed to not need cleaning, but do very occasionaly. There
are several version of the quantum 110/220 SDLT drives around as there has been
a problem for a while. My hardware vendor with quantum has replaced all my
drives with ones with the latest engineering change implemented. Error free 5
weeks now. But there are several issue you may be facing. I upgraded drive
firmware several times to the version V075 which I am currently running. The
issue could happen several days in a row and take a few weeks off, and then
reappear. I though it was a media issue and changed media vendors several
times to no avail. Also noted that brand new tapes could not be labled 10% of
the time and out of the 80% which did label of the brand new media 15 %failed
to be written to period and the remaining tapes would write kb to GB and some
tapes would fill fine. I am still watching very closely, but I am feeling
really well in comparison to several months ago.

We've ugraded our Solaris Networker server from 6.1.2 to 7.1. All seems
fine except we seem to be getting many more SCSI media write errors now
on our SDLT 220 tapes. The errors show up in Networker as "bad file number"
errors" :

and as hard write errrors in /var/adm/messages:

With no drive in common for the errors it would appear this version of
Networker is having problems with our media. Is anyone using SDLT drives
with Networker 7.x successfully without errors like this? Could this be
related to the new CDI system of networker 7.x or is it suddenly bad media?

Also, this tape was being written during cloning. This version of Networker
now leaves the nsrclone process hung along with the tape being read. Sigh.
