I believe a L180 is a library, not a drive. It would depend on the
drive(s) in the L180.

If the drives are DLT 8000s (as I might guess from your calling it a
40/80 tape instead of a DLTIV or CompacTapeIV), *and* you are using the
default capacity of 40GB uncompressed or compressed, then the answer is
no.

You could potentially create a device that would allow the DLT8000 to
write a tape a lower density that would be compatible with the DLT7000.
The 7000 is limited to reading densities corresponding to 35GB per
CompacTapeIV cartridge, plus or minus compression. Most of the DLT
series can read and write lower densities than their maximum for
backward compatibility reasons.

What version(s) of networker? It's not worth it with 5.x.

Even with 6.x I might prefer to just use 'scanner | uasm' to read the
media directly to disk rather than import the volume into a separate
Networker server database.

If you still want to, you'll use 'scanner' to scan the tape and create
media and file database entries.
