Have you tried adding an extra drive to see if the problem goes away?
BTW, in my experience, "surely it will not" doesn't necessarily mean it
will not ;-).

It only shows 4 'required volumes' and the Oracle/Unix pool is limited
only to 3 drives. These drives should be enough and surely it will not
mount all required volumes and read concurrently. We dedicated 3 drives
on 2 pools (Netware/Win/NT clients and Oracle/Unix clients). If we don't
do this, data will be multiplexed in so many volumes and there's a
chance that one environment will hog all the drives and cause backup
failure/timeout on the other pool/clients.

Librado

When you look at the "required volumes" in the restore app, how many
tapes are required for the restore? Does the number exceed your 6
drives?

Cheers,
Jim

Hello all,

During backups, the jukebox load tapes normally, but when I perform file
restores, the jukebox or Networker cannot load/mount the required tapes,
I need to manually mount the tape thru NWAdmin GUI before it can mount
and read it.

The message in daemon.log is as follows:

'Jukebox 'STK9714' failed: cannot allocate enough devices for specified
volumes.'

Here's our environment:
Server O/S: Unix-AIX
NW v6.1.3
Jukbox: STK 9714 Timberwolf with 6 DLT7000 tape drives.

thanks in advance,
