Just a suggestion. If networker isn't running (and nothing else is
talking to the drives), can you 'modunload' the st driver, then access a
drive (do a mt status).
That will reload the driver. When that happens, do you get the message
on the console again?
0x4000 is ST_BUFFERED_WRITES. I've certainly used that on many media,
even though it's not quite kosher with Networker. I haven't touched
AIT-2 much though.
Can you confirm that 'mt -f <drive>' on both machines returns the same
string for the AIT tapes and that the st.conf option string has 0x4000
set on both machines?
If so, I'm at a loss to explain why one and not the other is
complaining. In fact I don't know who is complaining here exactly.
It's probably from the st driver, but I'm not sure if the drive is
responding in a way that creates the complaint.
Different firmware levels on the drives?
