At our site we use prelabeled tapes, but our Memphis sites labels thier own
LTO tapes using standard labels (which they buy at Staples) and downloaded
freeware. The resulting label contains a valid barcode and human-readable
label but no color coding, so a color printer is not required.

Here's what they told me about labels:

The labels I use are Avery "White Filing Labels".  There are several
different types that are the same size, but the ones I use are the model
5366 labels.

The software that I use is Avery DesignPro which is freeware that can be
downloaded from Avery's site.
