We have two Exabyte 215M tape libraries. Each is separately attached to
our Network Appliance servers using a dedicated LVD scsi card in each
server. Lately we have been having major issues with SCSI media errors
on one of the tape libraries. Since the backup is NDMP, any
unrecoverable media errors causes the entire backup to abort and start
over. Given that this is a 658GB volume, we haven't had a good backup in
a couple of weeks. Exabyte reviewed the logs the tape drives keep
internally and had us replace the two drives. Unfortunately, the new
drives are still having the same problem. I've done the normal SCSI
voodoo (checked cables, etc), but sense key decodes to a media error
rather than a scsi bus error. We have cleaned the tape drives
repeatedly, we have used different copies of media. Any suggestions or
similar problems?
