Yes below is right,

Legato uses a "Open Tape Format" to write to its tapes - which will only be
readable by Legato. The nice thing about this is it uses the same OTF across
all platforms (so you can read a Windows tape on a HP-UX machine - but lets
not go into that).

To the best of my knowledge, they would have to deploy a networker server
for
restore purposes only. Officcially for that you would not need a license as
restores work anyway.

If they cannot use the existing infrastructure, yes then indexes should be
migrated or a complete repilica of the current server could be made.

Meta data and tape format are compatible only with the networker product
itself.

You may be in for a bit of work.
