Nate,

Very briefly, (in my experience - this is something that you will have to
struggle with a bit to get on top of in your setup). The problem you saw is
because there isnt a backup server on your standalone network that the exch
user can get its data from ....

Depending on the Version of Exchange (5.5 / 2000) you will need:

A backup server to do the restore from (where the client indexes are kept).
(this can be your own backup server should you so whish but it has its own
pro's con's).

If in a completely seperate Domain:

For 5.5.:
An exchange 5.5 server
A backup server with client and media indexes restored (either mmrecov or
copy or some way)

For 2000:
A DC with all forestprep etc 100% and all rights as was in the original
domain (this normally gives me the most headache).
A exchange 2000 machine (same level patches etc as before).
A backup server

It is relatively involved, and not 100% covered in the manuals - but the
disaster recovery manuals and the exchange admin guides should get you
comfortable with the process...

Hope this helps.

Riaan

Subject: [Networker] exchange DR testing

I have a question for the list. I want to test my exchange DR process.
These are the steps that I have taken so far.

1. Build DC/exchange server as a standalone server so that it can not
be seen on the network
2. Add standalone LTO drive
3. clone savesets from library to a single tape so I don't mess up my
regular tapes just in case
4. scan the tape in with the following commands

a. scanner \\.\Tape0 <file:///\\.\Tape0>
b. scanner -m \\,\Tape0 <file:///\\,\Tape0>

5. ?

Now when I go to the exchange user, it tells me that I am not a client of
any networker server, and there is nothing in the index

Am I missing something???

Thanks
