Would you be able to run a savegrp -D5 -vvv -l full groupname as well as this 
will give you more debugging information.

Maybe the folks at tech support will be able to find something in there as 
well.

Thanks for the suggestion Terry. Some people from Mirapoint were logged
onto one of our servers last night and we kicked off a backup while they
watched the system. They feel the backups abort because of an inability
to write to any of the NDMP devices on our Legato server. When I kick
off a backup, it also goes from /dev/rmt/0cbn to /dev/rmt/3cbn, then to
/dev/rmt/6cbn and /dev/rmt/9cbn and places them in service mode while
mounting the same tape in each device after the previous one is put into
service mode.

doing a local backup isn't an option for us, unfortunately.

I just emailed the results of "savegrp -vvvvv -l full " to Legato
tech support to see what they say.
