just a thought: did you have a look at the disk signatures ? I mean the ones
that Windows assigns to the disk.
The simplest method to see the volume serial numbers is with the dir
command:

C:\>dir
 Volume in drive C is xxxxxx
 Volume Serial Number is 2C83-8F20

 Directory of C:\

It might be possible that you have two volumes with the same serial number.
