I am in the final stages of implementing Networker v7.0 Windows and a CX600
and I am very happy with the Advanced File type. I have 2 500GB LUNs that
are in the CX600 that are 2 separate file type devices. I also utilize EMC
Snapview for "across the SAN" backups of 3 500+ GB LUNs. I have quadruple
Gig teamed NICs in each of my large servers including the backup server, so
I can feed the disk device pretty quickly, upwards of 50MB/sec. One point
of concern which I will have to solve logistically is that the stage from
the disk device to tape has to de-mux the savesets and so far in testing has
led to writing at less that full tape capacity. I think it has to do with
the many smaller system savesets intermuxed with the large ones. But over
all the disk device is definitely the way to go.

Hi, I am trying to determine the advantages of using disk to disk backup
for a Networker server. The networker server would have 500gb of disk and
the total client data would be 200gb. The client backups would be performed
across the network as the disk is attached to the networker server. So my
network will still be utilised by the backup,

What kind of performance increase would I expect when using disk rather than
tape? (I realise that the model of server/disk will effect this so in this
case the disk will be internal to the compaq server).
Will the benefits be enough to recommend disk to disk backup rather than a
tape san?
Can I configure a SAN storage node to use SAN disk as a file type device?

Thanks and Regards, Mark
