I have been reading documentation, websites, eKnowledgebase etc about the
pw2 directive. However, some things are still unclear about the useage.
This leaves me with some more or less specific questions that I will list
below. If anyone feels like explaining exactly how proper useage of the
pw2 directive should be implemented, feel free to reply. :) It doesn't
seem like there have been any good posts on this topic on this list
previously either.

Environment: Solaris networker server 6.1.3 (soaris 7) and file-system
backup of w2k clients.

As far as I can understand, from the following document, and other sources
(http://www.assistra.com/support/legato/askthelegatospecialist0603.html) ,
one has to specify a password in order to select encryption in the
networker user GUI on the client. Then one can select some
savesets/volumes/drives that should be backed up using both password
protection and encryption. So far so good.

I assume that if one initiates a manual backup from the client, these
files/volumes/directories etc that are marked to be protected and
encrypted indeed are being encrypted and protected when these savesets are
written to tape. But what about automatic/scheduled backups? Is the client
smart enough to automatically encrypt and protect files that are being
backed up because of a request from the networker server? This is where it
gets unclear.

Question 1: In order to perform scheduled backups of a client, does one
have to create a directive on the server that specifies the pw2 ASM for
each volume/saveset on the client (for instance C:, SYSTEM FILES: etc)?
Does one need to specify the password used for encryption in the
server-side directive as well, or can it use whatever is specified on the
client (in networkr.cfg)?

Question 2: Is it possible to allow the client to specify a password which
is unknown for the networker server administrator and, if possible, force
the savesets to be written as encrypted data to tape? If it isn't possible
to force encryption on files being backed up, can one at least specify
that pw2 should use the password set on the client?

Question 3: What encryption method is being used? DES? Please don't tell
me that it's ROT-13 or similar, which I understand is the case with
xlateasm. ;)

If I'm being unclear, just ask, and I'll try to clarify a bit further. :)
