I don't think it is a name resolution problem, as we are able to connect
to exchange.semaphore.lan. It is a permissions issue on our Exchange
server. In our upgrade to 2K our permissions got all kinds of screwed
up. We are only just now realizing how much they got screwed up through
getting Exchange to backup.

Thanks,
-Josh

Something doesn't seem right about the client name

[3240] Client: exchange.semaphore.lan

I am guessing it is a name resoulution problem.

My log looks like this. I am guessing that you can't connect to the
server
as exchange.semaphore.lan

Thanks for the help. We are still having serious issues getting
Exchange 2K
to backup. Those problems seem to have to do with permissions on the
Exchange 2K box. Did you have any permissions issues when you first
started
backing up Exch. 2K?

These are our savesets:

Doesn't work.....

MSEXCH:IS
MSEXCH:MB
MSEXCH:KMS
MSEXCH:SRS

Works......

E:\
SYSTEM STATE:\
SYSTEM DB:\
SYSTEM FILES:\

We are running the service as the Local System Administrator. We have
tried
it as the Example Admin, Domain Admin, and User with Admin rights. No
luck
with any of them. We always get access denied when backing up public
folders. Now that we have played around with the permissions, we cannot
even
get the savesets that used to work working again. A total pain in the
butt... If you guys have any thoughts that would be great!

Thanks,
-Josh

Josh, What are the errors in the Event Viewer? There might be an Event
ID
that could be helpful.

Also, what SP are you running on your exchange2000?

I also pulled this from the eknowledgebase, I know it's recovery but
could be
related to backing up.... and this link from HP that might help.

Here is the solution:

To resolve the problem:

(3) Start the System attendent;
(4) Start the information store;
(5) Start the recovery through the NetWorker User for Exchange; Monitor
the

We have not set up any service permissions as far as I know. We were
backing
up Exchange 5.5 before. We just upgraded, and I basicly just copied the
savesets that were backing up 5.5 over to 2K (changing the client name
and
C:\ saveset entry to E:\, because there is no C:\ drive on the new
Exchange).
We did not purchase any new Modules, as the one we were using to backup
5.5
is supposed to support 2K. Here is the out put from the logs, which I
think
is telling me that the module is working for 2K:

I am assuming that you have a service account that has permissions to
backup
the mail box.

My savesets look like this ...

MSEXCH:IS/Attorney Storage Group
MSEXCH:IS/Legal Support Storage Group
MSEXCH:IS/Support Storage Group

I believe the DS switch is obsolete in BSM 3.0 and 3.1 not positive but
I'll
look it up.

were there any error msgs in the event viewer for ESE?

Hope this helps.
Phil.

We have the 3.1, and it does support 2K. We only have one Exchange to
backup.

Hi Josh,

I'm not sure of the license type off the top of my head (sorry ;-). But
is
Z11 mean that it's bsm for exchange 3.0 or 3.1? You need either one of
these
modules to backup exchange 2000. Also, are your exchange servers
clustered?

Which BSModule for Exchange are you using for your Exch2000?

Anyone backing up Exchange 2K successfully? If so, what are your
savesets?
I cannot get my Exchange 2K backups to work for the life of me!

Here are my savesets:

E:\
SYSTEM STATE:\
SYSTEM DB:\
SYSTEM FILES:\

And (2 different Clients, one for exchange data, one for other)

MSEXCH:IS
MSEXCH:DS
( using 'nsrxchsv.exe' under Remote/Backup Command)

This is one of the errors output in the Applogs:

HrESEBackupPrepare: Unable to perform the operation. Either you can not
connect to the specified server or the service you are trying to
connect to
is not running.
