If the device is defined correctly in st.conf or st itself then doing:-
mt -f /dev/rmt/0cbn stat (on a drive that is not being used by legato)
should return with the 1st line saying what device it is talking to.
eg.
geo# mt -f /dev/rmt/2cbn stat
