yes, also you can check on Solaris by doing strings on /kernel/drv/st and
grep for the drive your interested in.

IMHO st.conf is the right place for all drive support as you can see what
settings are being used - I don't know how to see the configurations built
into the st driver. From personal experience (many years ago) I've seen
malformed st.conf settings from Sun and from the tape drive manufacturers.
