LTO-1 tapes should work in LTO-2 drives. In fact, the LTO-2 drives should be
able to write to the LTO-1 tape a little faster than an LOT-1 drive...

Currently we have 2 EXABYTE 18D (1 tape , 8 slots) and one 230 ( 1dlt7000
and
9 slots used ) The smaller libraryes of storagetek the l20 do not seem to
support the 9940 as far as I can figure out on their website.

Thanks for the info anyway its good to have options to compare.

By the way I understand that LTO-1 cartridges (100G) cannot be used on the
LTO-2 series. That would be one reason for us not to choose LTO. I do not
like to make aninvestment in tapes not to be able to use them with the next
generation of the tape drives.

We currently have 600 DLT tapes and moving from dlt4000 to dlt7000 was a
painless operation where we did not have the additional cost of buying also
new media on top of getting a new drive.
