Don't know the answer for sure but, I hear tell that, in NW7 you can
specify devices by their SCSI address instead of windows logical
name.... Sounds good if true...

I am running Networker 6.1.3 on W2K SP3.  My Server has 2x2Gb Qlogic
2340 HBAs in it.  One HBA goes through one EMC switch to a StorageTek
SN3400 router and the other HBA through another EMC switch to another
SN3400 router.  The SN3400s connect to an arm and 15 drives inside a
StorageTek L700e.  SN3400 #1 has 4 FC ports and 8 SCSI ports.  SN3400 #1
has the arm and 7 drives each attached to its own dedicated SCSI port,
with the exception of the arm which is chained off of Drive 0.  SN3400
#2 also has 4 FC ports and 8 SCSI, each drive is attached to its own
dedicated SCSI port.  Each FC port has two SCSI ports that are mapped
(i.e. SCSI 1&2 are on FC1, SCSI 3&4 on FC2, SCSI 5&6 on FC3 and SCSI 7&8
on FC4).  The mappings then have SCSI LUN IDs, 0-7.

I have installed the Qlogic SANBlade Control FX utility and used this to
take the LUNS from the SN3400s and created persistent bindings to the
LUNS/Targets at the OS/HBA Level so it maintains the order of the
drives.

Here comes the problem, DEVICE PATHS.  \\.\Tape0 to \\.\Tape14 is
assigned to the tape drives and they always appear in the right order,
provided all drives ar running.  However, if a drive is off or is
unreachable and a server is rebooted, the device paths shift....an
example....

WORKING
----------
Drv0 = Tape0
Drv1 = Tape1
Drv2 = Tape2


After failure
-------------
Drv0 = Tape0
Drv1 = Offline/unreachable
Drv2 = Tape1

...when this happens, Legato can run into messy issues.  Is there anyway
to hardcode the device paths under W2K?  I have heard people talk of a
registry hack that might be able to fix this up.  

Can anyone help/comment on this?
