The big danger in doing this exists if you are using both NFS (UNIX-based)
and CIFS (Windows-based) to access the same data. Both NFS and CIFS store
metadata about the files, but each uses its own format. File server file
systems are built to store BOTH sets of metadata, and will save the file and
both sets of metadata IF you use the file server backup utility to do the
backups; this almost always requires the use of NDMP to integrate this with
a backup application like NetWorker. And, when you restore this backup, you
get your files and both sets of metadata.
So, if you do your backups via NFS, and later to a restore via NFS, then you
will loose any CIFS metadata. But if this isn't important in your
environment, then this doesn't matter.
