Thanks a lot for all the tips and hints!

As far as i can see, backup/recover speed
for all the netware clients is quit fair
(taking the older hardware into account)

But Win* speed remains very low.
I have added
<< "C:">
  ignore
in the meanwhile to the Win directive.
But that hasn't been that great trick.

FTPing the SAME files will still be much, much
faster.

Maybe it's the clients problem dealing
with thousands of small files. Further testing
has to be done (network, client config,...)
Multiple streams from one large volume would
probably be a good choice.
But -easy to configure-, they are difficult
to restore.
