Julio,

  I don't know why it's so slow, but I just went through a very
similar exercise with the same results about 2 weeks ago,
also using DLT7000 drives.  I attributed the slow speed to
the fact that the cloning process was having to "de-multiplex"
2 archive save sets from the original volume.  I haven't yet
been able to confirm this, but it may explain your case too.

  When I first started archiving, I'd archive things twice rather
than clone.  Lately, I've tried to use cloning instead because
sometimes getting one archive to complete successfully,
especially a large archive, has been a challenge all its own.
