We've been using two Scalar 1000 libraries for over two years now.
We/We've been very satisfied with the reliability of the robotics and
the picker. The design of this library with large glass panels on the
front and sides provides ample viewing area of the media slots,
tape drives and the robotics. The operator control panel is easy
to learn and provides enough functionality to properly manage
the library. The mailbox or Input/Output door is sufficiently large
(holds 18 AIT cartridges) enabling our operations staff to efficiently
add and remove media. Accessing the tape drives from the rear
of the library for maintenance is quite easy. Last but not least the
robot is extremely fast.

The library we were using prior to the ADIC was an ATL (L3500) marketed
by Sun. Its features were about 180 degrees removed from the Scalar 1000.

We will be purchasing a new tape library this year and are in the process of
deciding between ADIC 1000 and STK L180.
Mostly Sun/Solaris shop. Anybody out there have an opinion (concerning
library decision) they would like to share?

: )

Thanks in advance,

Jana Reid
