Grr ;)... Since AIX is seeing those and jbcon* not I would suspect
some native
AIX "issue" to be involved.

One obvious thing would be smcX which should disabled.  In the past
people have
discussed that enough on the list and there was also a startup script
sent to
the list which disables smc upon the restart (see also Legato
Technical Bulletin 
314).

Legato comes with nice sji* tools collection so You can run queries
with 
sjirdtag and try some movements with sjimm (specially with drives that
are
making You a trouble) as those commands use pure SCSI commands usually
used by
jb* and nsr* commands.
