Is this SCSI or fibre? In the past I have set up Linux with an Emulex
LP9002 fibre HBA, and persistent binding was part of the driver config.
Mind you, the configuration for Emulex on Linux is much less polished than
on Solaris or NT.

Part of the trouble with persistent binding is that it only maps from a
WWPN (or WWNN) to a SCSI ID. The mapping from SCSI address to device name
is not well controlled on many operating systems, Windows in particular.
IBM had the right idea with AIX - they map directly from WWPN to device
name, thus avoiding any confusion with SCSI addresses that are artificial
anyway.

Perhaps you should drop the great man Mr. Torvalds a line and suggest how
you think it should be done.
