George,

He is talking about a Sun st driver patch. If the st driver has native
support for your device you can use the drives without modifying the
st.conf. If the st driver does not have native support for your device
you must modify st.conf. NetWorker relies on the operating system being
configured correctly (like all other backup vendors).

However, native support doesn't guarantee the driver is setup to work
the way you want. You can tweak st driver settings through the st.conf
file.

The big thing with NetWorker is using a variable block size setting for
the st driver. This allows NetWorker to choose the block size (default
settings already in NetWorker when you create the device).

If anyone doesn't understand how the st driver works they should talk to
Sun.

So in your case since you modified the st.conf you shouldn't necessarily
need the patch (unless there is some OS bug that it fixes as well). If
you upgrade to 6.1.3 (which you should) you wouldn't need to apply the
st driver patch (once again unless there is an OS bug that would affect
NetWorker).

Thanks,

Carston
