Hallo Brian,
we see such a error message after updating the NIC (Compaq-GigaBit-NIC), with
the new Smart-Start.
After the update, on several servers no backup works and all report such a
error message.
A solution was to use the intel-drivers or the change this registry-hack.
You hav to run regedit on the w2k-client
In MyComputer/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/
Class/{.......-....-....-..................}xxxx(your nic) you have
to change TransmitMode REG_SZ to 0 (on my server from 3). Reboot your
client-server and I was running.

At this point, I'm willing to try anything, but I want to point out that _ALL_
of my savesets have a \ following them. The other half of the cluster that I'm
having the issue with has the EXACT same savesets defined, and is having no
issues.
I'll try that, and see how it works tonight.

since NW is a bit tricky with distinguishing between
paths and other savesets.
