If you are on software maintenance you should be entitled to a free 9-slot
autoloader licence. Here in the UK we have had two free 9-slot upgrades this
way, but it may be different elsewhere. The 9-slot licence is now the minimum
sold.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Hello all:

We're considering replacing our 7 tape DLT8000 changer with something with
more capacity. I think we're going to go with SDLT, because the backwards
compatibility is nice (then the old tape drive can go to the NT guy).

I was wondering if people could recommend something that fits these critera
and that they've had good experiences with:

        * supported with Tru64 Unix and Networker 6.1.2
        * 8 slots or less (I don't have the budget to buy both a new drive
          and a new license)

I'm currently looking at the Quantum 8 slot L200. That seems to fit all my
criteria, but apparently is only a 110/220GB model. It'd be nice to just
make the leap to 160/320G--does anything do this? I looked at the Networker
Compatibility list, and didn't come up with much that is that small.

And, if anyone has a really compelling reason to go with some other format
(AIT, LTO, whatnot), I'd appreciate some info on that too. I've really only
found the most barebones of comparisons (tape speed and capacity). If one of
the formats is more reliable, media is more cost effective, etc., that'd be
handy to know as well.

Thanks in advance.
