i'm a little confused as to what's meant by "recycle" in this context.
without auto media management i've been getting tapes marked
as recyclable alright. the problem is that they aren't being re-used
because they're also read-only.

Thank you for pointing out...]
After double checking with the documentation of nsr_jukebox it seems
that auto media management is not needed for the recycle.!!!
Sorry about posting an unconfirmed requirement.

Does this auto media management a must?
In several environments I know, it is disabled and recycling media
works
fine also.

my understanding, turning on this feature only if you allow the media
to
recycle to different pool
