Justin,

Some of us have learned already not to buy backup software
or tape hardware from Sun. They've orphaned our L1000 DLT 
library by not providing an upgrade path to SuperDLT heads 
(which would greatly expand its value for us). We were
barely able to fit it with 4 DLT7000 heads before they
stopped selling 7000 drives and offered 8000 only (and 
only then if you threw out your 7000s first, mixed drives 
weren't supported).

I'm hopeful I can flash the firmware to turn it back into an
ATL P1000 (Sun's L1000 is really just a rebadged ATL P1000),
as ATL does provide SuperDLT heads for this unit. If anyone out
there has gone down this route, please let me know.

Needless to say, we're using Legato with this setup, so I
hope this isn't too far off topic! :-)
