One of the six Sony AIT-2 tape devices in a Qualstar 412600 tape library
seems to be stuck in limbo.

For the past ten hours or so, the status for this device appears as:

  /dev/nrmt3h (J) 8mm AIT-2 A00325 ready for reading, moving
backward 2 file(s)

This is on a Tru64 Unix 4.0f system running Power Edition NetWorker 6.1.1.
The fuser utility says that no process is accessing this device.

I suspect if I shut down the NSR software on our server and empty the
temporary files in /tmp for this tape library, then restart it, the
problem will go away, but I would rather not shut down anything now.

I tried issuing a "nsrjb -HEv" command on this tape library, but it
had no effect; just displayed an error that it couldn't unload the
tape from /dev/nrmt3h.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem with the server remaining
active will be appreciated.
