In some queries I did in the past I was led to the impression that
Veritas ServPoint is basically a Samba server for the CIFS world.
As such you will have to research the CIFS extended ACLs handling by
Veritas ServPoint.
The decision if you can natively backup the Veritas ServPoint underlying
VxFS will be according to the answers you will get.

I think exactly the same as you and fail to see why it shouldn't work.

However both Sun, Veritas and another retailer are saying that Legato
doesn't support VxFS when backing up a Solaris box running Veritas
ServPoint (underlying filesystem VxFS), and the only solution is to use
NDMP. Which in itself is not supported until release 7 of Networker
Server on Tru64, so we'd at least have to ditch the DS20 for a Sun
equivalent (waiting till January is not an option).

Everything is a bit confusing really and no-one will give us a
definitive answer either way. Does anyone know from experience that a
Sun Solaris system running Veritas ServPoint with VxFS filesystems can
be directly backed up using a standard Networker Solaris (Unix)
clientPak? And does that include the back-up of ALL NFS AND CIFS
EXTENDED ATTRIBUTES on the filesystem?!?

Thanks for your help,

Edward

Edward,
>From your problem description it is not clear why you ask about NDMP at
all. VxFS is a (Unix) supported file system on a SUN Solaris machine. To
backup such a file system you do not need any special modules.
You just specify the file system name and that all...

Subject: [Networker] Tru64, NDMP and Legato Networker

Morning,

I've just got a quick question and I was hoping someone could clarify
the answer for me.

We are currently running, Legato Networker for Unix Server version 6.1.1
build 238 with Tru64 Unix (v5.1) on a Compaq DS20. We are currently
looking to upgrade our file store to a Sun system running a Veritas VxFS
file system. At present I can't see a legato module to allow us to back
this up this file system directly - however by using the NDMP client I'm
told can successfully run our backups.

So basically I'm asking if the NDMP client is supported on our current
set-up? And if not what would we have to change to achieve a working
solution?

Thanks very much for your help,

Edward
