If you carefully read the weasel words on the Ultrium web site, you can
divine that the tape cartridge is fully specified.  You know, dimensions,
tape characteristics, etc.  So you can buy a properly logo'd tape and use
it in any manufacture's drives, no matter who made it.

What isn't specified is the format of the data on the tape.  So, any IBM
drive should be able to read a tape written on any other IBM drive, but
don't count on an HP drive being able to read it.

Sort of like the difference between TAR and CPIO except at a much lower
level.  Interoperation is not guaranteed between manufacturers, as it is
with DLT and SDLT.
