Good-day Charles,

We also had some difficulties on a site with the Overland Neo2000.

I am happy to say these were finally resolved.

The site uses NW for Linux on the backup server and has used various SCSI
HBA's including the 29160.

The site firstly used a Neo2000 with DLT8000 drives (LVD-SCSI) which worked
fine (by all acounts).

However, the final decision was for SDLT technology, and this is where the
problems began.

The new Neo with SDLT (LVD-SCSI) drives behaved most erratically and
unpredictably.

It was clearly a SCSI-type problem, but nothing we could do would resolve
it.

New HBA's, cables, terminators, even tape drives did not help.

The problem was more one of SCSI hangups than simply low throughput like you
are seeing.

But you might have ended up with the SCSI bus having negotiated it's
clockspeed all the way down to 1.5 Mhz.

Finally it was isolated to the small SCSI pass-through circuit boards in the
back of the Neo.

These actually hold the SCSI plugs to which the SCSI cables are attached
(they are more complex than they appear at first)

Apparently, this was a known problem, and Overland shipped out new ones.

This may be relevant in your case. However, it goes back at least 6 months.

I would be surprised if this is a new library, supplied with these
problematic parts.

regards,

John Hope-Bailie
